Alvin's manipulator is an elevator lift with 2 pneumatic arms. we used an all brass air preparation system to conserve space and make it pretty :)

The elevator uses 2 steel-lined belts donated by Habasit. There is a [http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-2236.htm Toughbox Mini] gearbox with a 12.75:1 gear ratio, going to a Gates belt with a _(INSERT GEAR RATIO HERE)_ reduction on the sprockets. We have a ThunderShaft hex shaft with the 2 sprockets that drive the steel-lined belts.

On the lift itself we used a linear bearing kit from [http://www.competitionrobotparts.com/ Competition Robot Parts]. It is designed for standard 1x2 rectangular extrusion.

Limit switches and encoders help to enhance Alvin's speed and stacking capabilities, along with positive control/dynamic breaking on the lift. This makes the lift weight resistant and increases arm strength. The lift is made functional by two high-speed CIM motors. It has also been programmed to be automatically centered, adding on to Alvin's efficiency.

Mackenzie is a passionate member of the team who always tries to get involved and do something, and is as an eager student in and outside of robotics.

It was something that I thought I would enjoy and could see myself doing in the future, so I gave it a shot.

I learned a ton from all of the seniors my first two years on the team. When I started out, I knew essentially nothing, but they really pushed me to be my best. [[Tammy Ong]] and [[Jay Krishnaswamy]] especially really taught me a lot, and showed me how to be successful in robotics.

It was awesome when during the vex season my freshman year, we finally drove the robot and I could see how we had built something that actually worked! It was my first real robotics experience, which was pretty cool. The best experience though, has got to be winning Palmetto in 2014, and getting to go to worlds. Even though I was only a freshman, it was amazing to be a part great team and spend time with such great people!

A good drivetrain is the basis of a good robot, and the foundation (quite literally) upon which everything else you create is built.

==What to Design For==
A good drivetrain must be very mobile on the field for that particular year's game. It has to be able to avoid obstacles, push game pieces, and be durable and reliable. Each game is different in terms of what speed, mobility, and pushing power are needed, so these three concepts should be the main focus of the design and deciding what sort of drive train to use.

==Types of Drivetrains==
===Tank===
A tank drivetrain consists of (typically) 4 or 6 wheels total placed on the chassis so that each side has either 2 or 3 wheels. The left and right sides are generally driven independently of each other with motors and a gearbox on each side. It is most usually used with high-traction wheels.

Advantages to a tank drive:
*Easy to design, build, and program
*Relatively inexpensive
*Can be geared for speed or torque (pushing power)
*Easily driven

Disadvantages to a tank drive:
*Less mobility and agility
*Harder to navigate the field

A tank drivetrain is what team 1261 has most frequently used.

===Mecanum===
A mecanum drive train is very similar to a tank drivetrain, except they use mecanum wheels (wheels with rollers attached at a 45 degree angle from the direction of rotation) as opposed to high-traction wheels, and each wheel must be driven independently of the others.

Advantages to a mecanum drive:
*Very agile and easy to move about the field
*Easy to design and build

Disadvantages to a mecanum drive:
*Wheels and extra gearboxes make it more expensive
*Less pushing power
*More difficult to program
*Harder to drive

===Slide===
A slide drive train has a similar layout to a tank drive, but with an additional wheel in the center perpendicular to the rest. All of the wheels on this drivetrain must be omni-wheels (wheels with rollers attached at a 90 degree angle from the direction of rotation) in order for it to work.

Advantages to a slide drive:
*More agile, able to translate left and right
*Relatively easy to design, build and program
*Relatively inexpensive

Disadvantages to a slide drive:
*Cost is a bit higher due to omni-wheels and extra gearbox
*No real pushing power

===Holonomic===
A holonomic drivetrain consists of 4 wheels positioned at 45 degree angles to the frame of the robot (one in each corner). Each wheel is driven independently, and wheels are generally omni-wheels.

Advantages to a holonomic drive:
*Very agile

Disadvantages to a holonomic drive:
*Some additional cost for wheels and extra gearboxes
*No real pushing power
*More difficult to build and program
*Very difficult to drive

===Swerve===
A swerve drivetrain consists of 4 individual wheel modules that rotate to control the robot's direction of motion. These wheels are generally high-traction wheels.

Advantages to a swerve drive:
*Potential for speed or pushing power
*Very agile
*The best type of drivetrain for moving around the field - very versatile

Genesis had several different autonomous programs, which was one of the reasons the team was able to be so successful in 2014. It had a 1 ball auto where it would pick up the ball and shoot it into one of the high goals, but it also had a 2 ball auto, where one ball started inside the robot, and the other in front of it. It would launch the first, then the second into the high goal, scoring between 30 and 40 points (depending on which goal was hot).

I first started robotics to follow a friend of mine but after two meetings I fell in love with the team and robotics.

My role model is my Abuela. She was born and raised in a dirt poor home in Columbia but still managed to get a degree in law from a top law school in Venezuela. The college refused to let her in because she was a woman, but she fought and got in to the school and graduated with honors.

Hopefully I'll go to college out of state (Mizzou is my goal) and pursue a career in either medicine or law.

I love to hike and bike but I also box and play softball.

It was something that I thought I would enjoy and could see myself doing in the future, so I gave it a shot.

==Who is Your Student Role Model?==
I learned a ton from all of the seniors my first two years on the team. When I started out, I knew essentially nothing, but they really pushed me to be my best. Tammy Ong and Jay Krishnaswamy especially really taught me a lot, and showed me how to be successful in robotics.

I would like to pursue aerospace engineering.

Swimming, playing the piano, and reading are all things I enjoy!

It was awesome when during the vex season my freshman year, we finally drove the robot and I could see how we had built something that actually worked! It was my first real robotics experience, which was pretty cool. The best experience though, has got to be winning Palmetto in 2014, and getting to go to worlds. Even though I was only a freshman, it was amazing to be a part great team and spend time with such great people!
