This article briefly explains how to get a FTP client and how to use it to connect to the PRHS Robotics server.
This article does NOT explain the specifics of each and every FTP client nor how to navigate the server and perform downloads or uploads.
Responsibilty of Using FTP
When using FTP, there is a implied responsibility and trust that is assumed. There are a few things to keep in mind while acessing the server:
- When deleting something on the server, keep in mind there is no "trash can" or "recycle bin". Nine times out of ten, a file that is deleted is most often gone forever.
- When placing files that go onto the website, keep in mind that they can and will be accessed by anyone in the world - including Google.
How to Get a FTP Client
Perhaps the first step to use FTP is to download a FTP client. A quick search on Google will return numerous programs which will work. A quick search returns these:
- Filezilla (all platforms)
- SmartFTP (Windows)
- Cyberduck (Mac OS X)
- Linux has one included by default.
Connect to the PRHS Robotics Server
To connect to the robotics server, follow these steps:
- Start the desired FTP client.
- Open the dialog to open a new connection. For some this may be a button, menu item, or it may be a few fields on the main window.
- Using the username and password provided, enter that information in along with the server listed below.
- Server: prhsrobotics.com
- Click "Connect" and the client should connect to the server.
