Earlier this month, the Peachtree Ridge Robotics Team 1261 — the Robo Lions — won its district qualifying event in Albany against 25 teams from around the state. After 12 qualifications matches the team won the event in two decisive rounds to wrap up the final championship match.

Seven enthusiastic members of the Peachtree Ridge High School Robotics Team presented information about their activities to the Rotary Club of Lawrenceville on April 4.  The 80-member group is a student-led organization that participates in FIRST Robotics as well as VEX Robotics Competitions.  Members described how the competitions worked and how the group went about preparing their robots for the competitions.  The group is not only about engineering and business tasks; it is also about building relationships, developing leadership skills, engaging in teamwork, and doing outreach with the community.  They displayed two of their robots and showed a video about the “Robo Lions spirit” that won a prize at a recent competition.
  
The Robo Lions were also the first Gwinnett County team to take home the Chairman’s Award, which is presented by USFIRST to the team that represents a model for other teams to emulate as it best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST.

The Chairman’s award qualifies the Robo Lions to compete at the state championships in Athens in April. Along with the Chairman’s award, two members of the Robo Lions were selected as dean’s list finalists, which goes to the 10th or 11th grade student who represents leadership and dedication to promoting STEM awareness in the community through the goals of FIRST along with technical awareness.

Peachtree Ridge High School Robotics Team 1261 Visit the Lawrenceville Rotary Club

Seven enthusiastic members of the Peachtree Ridge High School Robotics Team presented information about their activities to the Rotary Club of Lawrenceville on April 4. The 80-member group is a student-led organization that participates in FIRST Robotics as well as VEX Robotics Competitions.
