Robo Lions win Albany district
Earlier this month, the Peachtree Ridge Robotics Team 1261 — the Robo Lions — won its district qualifying event in Albany against 25 teams from around the state. After 12 qualifications matches the team won the event in two decisive rounds to wrap up the final championship match.
The Robo Lions were also the first Gwinnett County team to take home the Chairman’s Award, which is presented by USFIRST to the team that represents a model for other teams to emulate as it best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST.
The Chairman’s award qualifies the Robo Lions to compete at the state championships in Athens in April. Along with the Chairman’s award, two members of the Robo Lions were selected as dean’s list finalists, which goes to the 10th or 11th grade student who represents leadership and dedication to promoting STEM awareness in the community through the goals of FIRST along with technical awareness.
Juniors Caroline Means and Mackenzie Glaser have been instrumental to the success of the Robo Lions in the past two years and will now compete against other dean’s list nominees at the state championships in Athens. (more...)
