Team 1261 has various social media outlets that we manage and update frequently.

Who updates it?

The job of updating social media almost always goes to the Historian. Occasionally, the role is split up and managing social media goes to the Social Media Lead.

The Big Three

Twitter

The team's Twitter is updated the most frequently out of all social media outlets. Here, we tweet out about recent events, upcoming events, and other miscellaneous robotics antics. During competition season, the twitter is frequently updated regarding the team's standing. The follower base for our twitter largely consists of students, other fellow FRC teams, and some of our sponsors.

Facebook

The team's Facebook is updated semi-frequently regarding important and upcoming events. During competition season, we post updates here as well. The follower base for our Facebook largely consists of students, alums, and parents. The Facebook and Twitter pages both have a similar purpose, but the audience is different.

Instagram

The team's Instagram is also frequently updated, but in a separate sense. Here, we post about our bigger and more important events because each post on Instagram must go with a photo. We also post our own "series", such as Meet the team Monday. The follower base of our Instagram is largely students and other fellow FRC teams. As such, Instagram posts are usually a little more light-hearted and funny.

Others

These platforms aren't updated as frequently as the 3 listed above, but we do acknowledge their existence.

YouTube

The team's YouTuber Channel is, obviously, where we post videos for the public to see. This includes the recent Parody videos, Chairman's videos, season recaps, and robot reveals. Other miscellaneous videos are also posted here.

Linkedin

The team's Linkedin is sparingly used. It was occasionally used in the past to keep up with companies and sponsors.

Smugmug

Though technically not a social media site, the team's SmugMug contains many of our photos from across the years. The Historian is responsible for keeping it updated throughout the year.

Cross Posting

Typically we do not cross-post across platforms, as posting from Twitter to Facebook or Twitter to Instagram just results in a link to the original post on Twitter. The only exception is Instagram to Facebook posting, because since Instagram is owned by Facebook, the photo that was posted on Instagram will also appear on Facebook. There are some criteria to posting from Instagram to Facebook.

Instagram to Facebook posting

Posting photos from Instagram to Facebook is the only cross-posting we do. However, there are certain guidelines that must be followed:

  • If the post is part of a series (i.e.: Meet the Team Monday), do not post it to Facebook.
  • If the post is regarding an important event, such as picture of our float at a parade or the beginning of Robots at the Ridge, it can be posted to Facebook.
  • Competition updates on Instagram should not be posted to Facebook. We typically post updates on Facebook without photos.

Any other guidelines will be added if they become more apparent.
