Lunacy was the FRC game for 2009.

Game Description

Teams start with two of their alliance's robots in the corners and one in the middle of the opposite side of the field. In the first 15 seconds, robots move around while human players sitting outside the field in the middle of the long side try to shoot moon rock "balls" in trailer "goals" behind robots. After autonomous, the game enters a two minute teleoperated mode where humans control the robots working together to pin robots and dump balls collected into their team's trailers. Also during teleoperated mode, empty cells can be pushed towards the corners of the field for the human player to swap out for a super cell. During the last 20 seconds of a match, super cells may be thrown into the field for hopes of throwing it into a goal.

Scoring

Points are allotted as follows:

  • Scored moon rocks = 2 points
  • Scored empty cells = 2 points
  • Scored super cells = 15 points

Field Description

3D Rendering of Lunacy field layout

Lunacy is played on a 27 by 54 ft field covered in a slippery material called regolith. At the middle of the 54 foot section of the field, is outposts for either alliance where empty cells and moon rocks can be introduced. The human player at the outpost is sitting in a chair that has 48 in wall blocking them from the field. In the corner of the field are the alliance fueling stations where empty cells are exchanged for super cells which can be used later at the end of the match.
