Underdrive

From RoboWiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Underdrive was the first Second Robotics Competition game and perhaps the last. The game was a one-third scale version of the 2008 Overdrive game.

Field

The field for Underdrive was built out of a lot of PVC glued together in sections that could be disassembled in panels and pushed back together to form a full field in one-third scale of course. The panels stood quite a bit higher than the typical FRC field walls, but this was just to make the design simple and cheap while still keeping game management down to a simple form. The panels were covered in Polycarbonate instead of Plexiglass as it proved to be stronger and better.

In the Overdrive, large 80 inch balls are used as game pieces. Their replacement for Underdrive was normal kickballs painted accordingly to match the red and blue alliance colors.

The field was constructed in the Fall months by Fred Smith, Randy Havner, and Tanner Smith.

Rules

The rules were modified rules from the Overdrive game in FRC.

A full list of rules emailed to teams attending the regional can be found here.

Game Play

Instead of the typical FRC three robot alliance, Underdrive had two robot alliances. This was chosen to keep game play even and also going along with the fact that three robots would end in a crowded field.
